A survey of Newman residents highlights the town’s welcoming atmosphere, strong sense of community, and stunning natural surroundings, positioning it as an ideal location for young families and a place to call home.
The Community Life in Newman survey was delivered by Creating Communities on behalf of Newman Futures in 2024, to provide the community with the opportunity to have their input into Newman Futures priorities.
The findings were overarchingly positive and community members highlighted Newman’s great sense of community, it’s small-town lifestyle and natural beauty. Many commented on the supportive nature of local people, who chip in to help each other out, and others showed an appreciation for the close-knit connections they have formed.
While the feedback was largely positive, participants also identified areas for improvement. Community members identified the need for greater access to health and community services, including more community events and recreational programs to build community connection. Residents also identified the opportunity to support local business growth to diversify the town’s economy and to build residential workforces.
Feedback suggested that through supporting local businesses and providing opportunities for staff to be involved in their community, this would further increase the liveability of the town.
Since its inception in 2019 Newman Futures has been working with local organisations and the community towards a shared vision to build a diverse and sustainable economy that is inclusive to all. The findings from this survey will be incorporated in to identifying Newman Futures priorities.
