We’ve all been hit with so many changes over the last few days, but that hasn’t stopped Newman’s own Megan Ewing from doing the best she can to support her community, and with a big smile on her face too!
The multi-tasking hero, local pharmacist, president of the Newman Day Care Centre and Marketing and Caretaking Coordinator for Parnawarri Retail Centre says the most important things we can be doing is making sure we have access to accurate and up to date information. “In this day and age, with so many different forms of social media, there is a lot of misinformation out there. I’ve been doing my best to ensure I am directing the people I talk to, friends and family, to the right sources such as the Department of Health and Department of Education websites”.
Perhaps what is even more important, Megan says, is looking after ourselves and our loved ones. “The real challenge will be looking after our mental health. There will be so many associated stressors with this health crisis; worrying about loved ones, financial pressures, strain on families – but so many of us are in the same boat so it’s important to look after ourselves. I’ve been letting everyone know that I’m just a phone call away if they need me”.
Megan is already thinking of new ways to stay socially connected in safe ways and is looking forward to having a lady’s wine night tonight with her girlfriends over videoconference. She’s also doing this in her role at Parnawarri, looking at how some of their usual events can be tweaked to encourage people to get involved in the fun from the safety of their own home. A ‘do it at home and snap a photo’ cupcake decorating competition is just one idea she’s got brewing, but you’ll have to stay posted for more!
Thanks Megan, for all you are doing for the Newman Community! If you’d like to find out more about how you connected to your community, and stay strong together, visit newmanfutures.com.au
