Emma Parr is one of Newman’s innovative wonder mums, having recently created a virtual mother’s group over Zoom to invite local parents to come together to support each other in these changing times.
“I’m a pretty social kind of person”, Emma joked on the phone, so it seemed only natural for her to set up online group where mums could come together to chat, laugh and cry together – whatever they may be needing at the time. With three kids under 6 years old, we’re sure there are more mums like Emma, who would welcome the opportunity to share the good, bad and ugly of parenting in a physically distant world!
“It’s been really great actually”, Emma said, “I’ve been living in Newman for the past four and a half years, and in just the short amount of time the online group has been running, I’ve not only had a lot of friends join in, but even local mums I’ve never met before”.
“It’s a really informal group – we all sit down in front of our computers or phones with a coffee or glass of wine – most of the time we all have children running wild in the background – but that’s just part of it”. It’s all about that authentic local connection, talking to others about how you are coping and sharing ideas to support one another.
The group is open to all mums and mother figures in Newman and runs every Sunday afternoon at 3pm.
