In late May, we kicked off our first range of collective engagement sessions to discuss the Newman Futures themes of Education and Training; Liveability and Wellbeing; Culture and Country and the Local Economy.
In our Education and Training session, which featured a full house of local educators, the Shire and community service organisations, we heard that you want to see innovative, inclusive and flexible education options in Newman. Flexible delivery of a curriculum to meet the needs of the community and prepare people for the future of work was central to our discussions.
You noted that there is a diversity of talent right here in Newman, and there is a real appetite for change within the community. You also saw the potential for increased awareness of how people can best use their skills and suggested working closely with the community and parent body to showcase the range of jobs and future jobs that are available to our students.
The conversation lunch group were also keen for Newman schools to be mentored by the Cecil Andrews College on their approach and success in providing a future-focused education, tackling curriculum inflexibility and increasing student engagement and attainment in the process.
We would love to see you at our follow up session on Wednesday June 26th to review the draft Newman Futures Roadmap on Education and Training and make sure it reflects your ideas for what you want and how you aim to get there.
