Those of you who live in Newman will know that a range of different groups form the community here, and these groups stay for varied periods of time. The Nyiyaparli and Martu people and settled locals are in Newman for the long term. Mining families, service providers, business owners and career movers are often medium-term. Whereas short-term residents include visiting family, tourists and au pairs.
Each of these distinctly unique groups have slightly different desires for liveability and wellbeing for their life in Newman, and all of these desires are important to keep in mind as Newman moves into the future.
At our first Liveability and Wellbeing Conversation Lunch, which was held in late May as one of the four sessions held around the Newman Futures pathways, participants understood this as they discussed their key aspiration for Newman to be an inclusive, accepting and connected society, which is respectful of culture.
