The next generation of Newman West Coast Eagles

The West Coast Eagles have partnered with Royal Life Saving WA’s Talent Pool to train and mentor youth leaders to assist with delivery of local programs, and to inspire the next generation through positive role modelling.

Two members of the team, Duane and Ned, were pleased to be recently presented with their uniform’s after receiving training from West Coast Eagles Youth Engagement Coordinator, Brendon Daily.

“We really wanted to give local young people the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and take some ownership of our local activations as West Coast Eagles Talent Pool team members” he said.

“Partnering with the RLSWA Talent Pool crew has meant we can give young people opportunities to develop a future career pathway through meaningful employment, whilst receiving continued support and guidance.”

The Talent Pool initiative is managed by the RLSWA Senior Manager of Regional Development Tim Turner and overseen in Newman by Supervisor Jade Muli and assists with the operations of many youth events around town including the weekly marquee Newman Nightfields Program, which was developed by WA Police and continued by the Y WA’s Newman branch, with support from the Shire of East Pilbara Youth Centre. The program aims to increase the provision of positive, social activities for local youth.

The partnership also allows the West Coast Eagles to maintain an ongoing presence in Newman, as the club remains committed to the continued delivery of school programs, before and after school initiatives and signature events such as the annual “Warlawuurru Cup” Carnival and the hugely anticipated Summer “Aqua Footy” at the Newman Aquatic Centre, which are supported by the Newman School Holiday Working Group and funded by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.

The West Coast Eagles continue to build resilience, healthy lifestyles and leadership among young people in Newman, supported by BHP and in collaboration with local partners.
